  1. Look under 'Account' in the left-side menu column and click 'Edit user profile.'
  2. On the Edit User Profile page, you will see the field showing your email address. Erase what is in that field and type in your new email address.
  3. Scroll down and click 'Submit Form.'

[

  2. On the update profile page, look under your email address. You will see the heading 'User Info.' You can fill in a name there.

this question.

On the User Profile page, scroll down and click the check mark next to 'Email Notify?' This will remove the check mark. Then scroll to the bottom and click 'Submit Form.' Do I have to type my userid and password every time I come to ItsYourTurn.com? No, you do not have to type your userid and password every time. We have an Automatic Login feature that allows you to access your games without typing in your password and userid. This feature is activated when you create a userid. So, you can put the address of your game status page in your browser's Bookmarks or Favorites and come directly to that page.

You can also deactivate automatic login. Look under 'Account' in the left-side menu column and click 'Edit user profile.' On the profile page, change the 'Automatic login' setting to 'No.' Then scroll down and click 'Submit Form.'

If you are a WebTV user having trouble adding the game status page to your Favorites, then please see
this question in the special help section for WebTV users.

I have Automatic Login enabled, but I still always go to the login page when I go to ItsYourTurn.com Whenever you go to our front page at this address:

www.itsyourturn.com,

you go to our login page, even if you have Automatic Login enabled. Instead, you should go to your game status page here:

http://www.itsyourturn.com/iyt.dll/status?

You can keep that link to your game status page in your 'Favorites' or 'Bookmarks' in your browser so that you can come directly to it without logging in. For help on adding it to your Favorites on WebTV, see this question in the special help section for WebTV users.

How can I enter my name, city, country, and time zone in my user profile? Look under 'Account' in the left-side menu column and click 'Edit User Profile.' On the Edit User Profile page you can enter information about yourself. Then scroll to the bottom and click 'Submit Form.'

Your name, city, country, and time zone will be seen by other players on our site when they view your User Profile. (Your email address is never displayed anywhere on ItsYourTurn.com.) This information will not be used by ItsYourTurn.com for marketing purposes.

We encourage you to enter your place of residence because it is nice for other players to be able to see where you live. They might enjoy knowing they are playing checkers with someone on the other side of the world, for instance. Also, the 'Search User Profiles' function (under 'Spy' in the left-side menu column) allows players to search for other players who live in a certain state or country. Entering your own state or country will allow other players to find you in that search.

Entering your time zone causes all times displayed on ItsYourTurn.com to be adjusted for your own time zone. If you enter no time zone, then all times shown will be for the eastern United States time zone.
[

Does my time zone have any affect on the games? Time zones do not affect games much. You have the same amount of time to make each of your game moves, no matter what time zone you are in. People who live in different time zones can easily play games with each other.

On your Edit User Profile page, you can select the time zone that you live in. This will cause all the times displayed beneath your game boards to be adjusted for your time zone. To select your time zone, look under 'Account' in the left-side menu column and click 'Edit User Profile.' On the Edit User Profile page, you can select your time zone just beneath your where you select your country and place of residence. Then scroll to the bottom and click 'Submit Form.' But remember, no matter what time zone you enter in your User Profile, you will have the same amount of time to move in your games.

Your time zone does have a small affect on how you are given extra hours for weekend moves in tournament games. To learn exactly how these extra hours are given in tournament games, see
this question in the Tournament section of these Frequently Asked Questions.

To learn about time limits in non-tournament games, see this question in the Playing Games section of the Frequently Asked Questions.

How can I share personal information about myself with other players on ItsYourTurn.com? You have a Biographical Profile page on ItsYourTurn.com. You can add information to this page at any time. Other players will be able to view this information.

Here is how to add or change your Biographical Information:

  1. Look under 'Account' in the left-side menu column and click 'Edit user profile.'
  2. On the Edit User Profile page, scroll down and click 'Edit Your Biographical Info:'
  3. Follow the simple instructions on that page.

Why do I never receive email when it's my turn to move? ItsYourTurn.com only sends you one email notification of your turn to move after each time you visit the site. Also, this email is delayed by about half an hour and it is cancelled if you make a move in a game before it is sent. These two restrictions prevent your being flooded with emails from us if you have many games going, or if you and an opponent are trading moves back and forth quickly. Knowing this, if you still think you are not getting emails from us, there could be two reasons:

  • Your email address may be incorrect in your account.
  • You may have your Email notify? option set to No.

To change these items, look under 'Account' in the left-side menu column and click 'Edit user profile.' On the profile page, check your email address. If the label 'invalid' has been put next to your email address, that means that our automatic mail system has been unable to send you email. You may correct your email address and remove the invalid label at this time. Also, change the 'Email notify?' setting to 'Yes.' Then scroll to the bottom and click 'Submit Form.'

I opened a game when you said it was my turn, but my opponent had not moved. When this happens, click Reload or Refresh on your browser, or use 'Cmd-R' if you have it on your WebTV unit, to load an updated page from our site. When we say it is your turn but the game page does not show your opponent's move, then you are probably looking at an old game board page that was stored in a cache in your browser or at your internet service provider.

You should also check your cache settings on your browser, if you are using a computer. We recommend a setting of 'Once per Session.' WebTV and Sega Dreamcast users can not adjust their own cache settings.

Here are some guidelines for changing your cache settings:

Netscape Browser 4.61:
  1. Click 'Edit' in the menu bar and choose 'Preferences.' A new window will open.
  2. On the left column in the new window, click the '+' symbol next to 'Advanced' then click 'Cache.'
  3. In the main part of the window, choose a cache setting of 'Once per session.'
  4. Click 'OK' to close the window.

Internet Explorer 5:
  1. Click 'Tools' in the menu bar and choose 'Internet Options.' A new window will open.
  2. Choose the 'General' tab at the top of the window, then look under 'Temporary Internet Files' and click 'Settings.'
  3. Choose 'Automatically' for your cache setting, then click 'OK' and 'Apply' wherever possible to close the windows.

AOL 5.0 Browser:
  1. Click 'My AOL' and choose 'Preferences.'
  2. Click 'WWW' and a new window will open.
  3. Choose the 'General' tab, then look under 'Temporary Internet Files' and click 'Settings.'
  4. Choose 'Automatically' for your cache setting, then click 'OK' to close the windows.

The link in my email reminder doesn't work. How do I get to my game? The links that we send in email reminders do not work with all email programs. If it doesn't work on yours, one thing you can do is keep the link to your game status page in the Favorites or Bookmarks in your browser, and just use that link to access your games whenever you get an email reminder from us.

Or, you can use your mouse to copy the link in the email, then paste it in your browser address window, then hit 'Enter' on your keyboard. That would take you directly to the game.

Why do my game boards take so long to load? If you are dialing in to the internet using a modem or WebTV, you may have a slow connection. You could try hanging up and redialing. If the problem persists, then it may be related to your cache settings.

We recommend cache settings of Once per Session or Automatically. If you have changed the cache settings to something else then that may be causing game boards to appear slowly. But if you are sure that you have not changed the cache settings, then they are probably set correctly now.

Here are some guidelines for changing your cache settings:

Netscape Browser 4.61:
  1. Click 'Edit' in the menu bar and choose 'Preferences.' A new window will open.
  2. On the left column in the new window, click the '+' symbol next to 'Advanced,' then click 'Cache.'

I keep returning to the login page. This happens right after I have logged in, or while I am making game moves. Read the error message that appears in red at the top of the login page. Here is the solution for each error message:

You must log in to perform this function: If you have logged in and you still see this message, then something is wrong with how cookies are being handled in your Web browser. See
this question and answer.

Userid doesn't exist: This means you entered a User ID that was not found in our system. See this question and answer.

Userid and password don't match: The password that you entered was not correct for the User ID that you entered. See this question and answer.

What is 'Logout' for? If you click 'Logout' under 'Account' in the left-side menu column, you will not be able to access your games until you log in again with your userid and password.

Logout is helpful if you are playing from a computer that other people also use. If you do not log out, then anyone can get to your games and make moves. But if you do log out, then nobody can get to your games unless they know your password and userid.

If you have logged out, you may log in again by coming to our home page at www.itsyourturn.com and entering your userid and password.
[

How do I keep someone else from playing my games? When you are done making your moves, look under 'Account' in the left-side menu column and click Logout. Then, you will not be able to play your games until you log in again with your userid and password.

If nobody else knows your password, then they can not log in and play your games.

After you have logged out, you can log in again if you go to our home page at www.itsyourturn.com, type in your exact userid and password (be sure you use upper and lower case letters correctly) and click 'Login.'

If you want to be really secure, you should also keep Automatic Login turned off. Look under 'Account' in the left-side menu column and click 'Edit use profile.' On the Edit User Profile page, remove the check mark next to 'Automatic Login?' Then scroll down and click 'Submit Form.'

Keeping Automatic Login turned off will cause you to be logged out of ItsYourTurn.com whenever you quit your browser. This will help insure that you do log out, even if you forget to log out yourself. When Automatic Login is turned off, you must log in with your User ID and password every time you come to our site after starting your browser.

What is the difference between my Name and my User ID? Everyone's User ID is different. No two can be alike. The difference can be small, though. Sometimes the only difference between two User ID's is the capitalization of letters. 'Sarah' and 'sarah' would be different userids, for instance.

You create your userid when you register on ItsYourTurn.com. If you never enter a name, then you always appear on the site as your userid.

You can create or change your Name at any time. To do this, look under 'Account' in the left side menu column and click 'Edit user profile.' Near the top of the profile page is a place where you can type any name you want. It can be the same as someone else's name or userid. If you create or change your name, be sure to scroll down and click 'Submit Form.'

If you have entered a name, then that is what will appear on your opponents' game status pages and on the message boards. But others will still see your userid when they read actual messages from you or look at your profile.

How can I make my moves while I'm traveling? One way to make moves while you are traveling is to take your laptop computer with you. But if you don't have a laptop, you can still access ItsYourTurn.com from any computer you find that has web access. There are certain things you should make sure you do for convenience and security:

  • Be sure you know your exact userid and password, including the exact use of upper and lower case letters. Whenever you access ItsYourTurn.com from a new computer, you need to log in with your userid and password.
  • Before you go on your trip, go to your user profile page and set 'Automatic Login' to 'No.' To do this, look under 'Account' in the left-side menu column and click 'Edit user profile.' On the profile page, change the 'Automatic Login' setting to 'No.' Then scroll down and click 'Submit Form.' When you return from the trip, you can change it back to 'Yes' if you want to.
  • When you are done making your moves on a strange computer, click 'Logout' under 'Account' in the left side menu column. Be sure you see the page that says you have logged out of ItsYourTurn.com. Then, close the browser completely. This will prevent other people from accessing your account.

What is the cache? The cache is a space on your computer's hard drive where text, graphics, and sounds that compose web pages are stored. These items are automatically added to your cache as you browse the web. When you return to pages you have visited before, your browser may save time by reusing files in the cache instead of downloading them off the internet again.

The problem with this is that you will see old pages instead of the most recent information. For example, if you're looking at your game status page, a game may actually be waiting for your move, but it'll appear like it's still your opponent's turn.

To fix this, you can change you cache setting. Your browser has cache settings that decide whether to display old cached files or to load new files from our site. We recommend a setting of Once per Session or Automatically. If you have never changed your cache settings, then they are probably set correctly now.

  3. In the main part of the window, choose a cache setting of 'Every time.'

  3. Choose 'Every Visit to the Page' for your cache setting, then click 'OK' and 'Apply' wherever possible to close the windows.

AOL 5.0 Browser:
  1. Click 'My AOL' and choose 'Preferences.'
  2. Click 'WWW' and a new window will open.
  3. Choose the 'General' tab, then look under 'Temporary Internet Files' and click 'Settings.'
  4. Choose 'Every Visit to the Page' for your cache setting, then click 'OK' to close the windows.

What are cookies? A cookie is a piece of information which a web site sends to your computer and stores in your browser.

ItsYourTurn.com uses a cookie which contains only your userid and your encoded password. The cookie tells us which user you are so that we can correctly display your game boards, game status, messages, etc.

It is possible for web sites to use cookies more extensively, to learn more about how people browse their sites. But ItsYourTurn.com does not use cookies for any purpose other than knowing your userid so we can display pages properly.
[

What happens if I don't want to enable cookies? Cookies need to be enabled to use our site. ItsYourTurn.com's cookie contains only your userid and your encoded password. We use it to tell us who you are so that we can correctly display your game boards, messages, etc.

You can download programs that will help you manage cookies. Such programs will tell you every time a site wants to write a cookie on your hard drive, give you the option of declining cookies, and help you delete ones that are on your hard drive. To find these programs, you can go to a technology information site like www.zdnet.com or www.cnet.com and perform a search for 'cookie manager.'

A cookie manager may cost about $15.00, but you will probably get to try it for a month before you pay for it.

My wins keep being removed from my stats! ItsYourTurn.com deletes all completed non-tournament games that ended on or before move 4. When these games are deleted, your stats are changed.

Most of these games were abandoned by one player and left to time out, or were resigned by one player who decided he/she didn't want to play them any more. Only a very small fraction of such games were actually played to completion in 4 moves.

What words are not acceptable in my User ID, name, or ratings? ItsYourTurn.com is a site for playing games and having friendly conversation with other players. As stated in section 11 of our User Agreement, players on ItsYourTurn.com have agreed not to transmit vulgar or offensive information on our site.

Foul language will not be tolerated in User ID’s, names, and ratings. Language of a sexual nature, including language that attempts to solicit cyber sex or sex chatting, also will not be tolerated. If you are interested in having sexual relations on the Internet, you should go to a site that exists for that purpose.

If you currently have offensive language in your name or ratings, you should change it now. If your User ID is offensive, write to us and tell us what you would like to change your User ID to.

Anyone who has foul or sexual language in his or her account could have all of his or her communications privileges revoked on ItsYourTurn.com. This means that he or she would not be able to send messages to anyone, post messages on the message boards, or post games to the Waiting Room.
[

How long will my User ID (Account) stay on ItsYourTurn.com? If you do not make a move on your account for 1 year, and your opponents in your completed games also have not come to our site for a year, then your account and games will be deleted.
